Shiny Magikarp And Shiny Gyarados have been found, claimed on Reddit
What an eventful couple of days for Pokemon GO… First, we got an update that gives a guaranteed evolution item from the 7-day streak. Then, we got an awesome Water Festival event. And now, it’s been confirmed that shiny Magikarp and shiny Gyarados have been found in Pokemon GO!
Around 15 minutes after the Water Festival event went live, reports started pouring in that shiny Magikarp had been caught in-game. Not long after, it was confirmed that shiny Magikarp did, in fact, evolve into shiny Gyarados, as well. Here’s a (brief) account of everything we know so far about how shiny Magikarp and shiny Gyarados behave in Pokemon GO: First off, since, you can no longer hatch Magikarp from an egg, the
First off, since, you can no longer hatch Magikarp from an egg, the only way to obtain a shiny one yourself is to catch one. Lucky for you, we’ve just been given a water-Pokemon event, so catching heaps of Magikarp shouldn’t be too difficult. When it comes to shiny Gyarados, however, we’re not sure yet if it can be encountered in the wild.
The second big thing is that Magikarp won’t appear as a shiny on the world map. It’s only after you engage in a battle that you’ll see if the Magikarp is shiny or not, which means all of your maps and trackers simply will not be able to help you here. Niantic: 1, Spoofers & Bots: 0.
Sadly, we know that a shiny Magikarp will not transform into a shiny Ditto. If the Magikarp reveals itself as a Ditto, it’ll transform into a normal, non-shiny Ditto. Can you imagine encountering a shiny Magikarp and then having it turn into a normal Ditto? It would suck. Funnily enough, it’s already happened to this guy on Reddit!
